Recently, ASUS computers were infected with malware that was pushed out with an automatic update. This was discovered by researchers at Kaspersky Labs. Their report can be found here.
How this attack occurred, is that a malicious actor modified the ASUS Live Update Utility, this is used for pushing out software updates, they then added a backdoor to it, this was then pushed out with automatic updates, to all users through official channels.
This attack in particular is one on the supply chain, and its bigger than CCleaner. These have increased in frequency in the last several years, and has originated from both independent and state sponsored actors.
