Facebook hit with another bombshell; likely one of their own design. This week, Facebook was down for all users, and this outage has persisted till now. WhatsApp and Instagram were also affected. The reasons to this outage are unknown, but rumors and speculation have lead to the outage being because of a DDoS attack, but these claims have not been confirmed by Facebook or any other sources.
Facebook has been blazing quite the trail, and all of this started at the onset of the 2016 US Presidential elections. Ever since then, Facebook has lost over 2 million users, been wrought with scandals and even a meeting between their founder Mark Zuckerberg and the US Supreme Court in relation to this, and other problems. Their steep decline in users has been attributed to how people see Facebook handling their data, and the general consensus has not been in Facebook's favor. Lets not forget that Facebook's hand in the 2016 elections was the reason the GDPR was created.
Hopefully, for Facebook's sake, that the reason for this outage, doesn't spur the creation of another data protection law.
