Google has suspended its Trends emails alerts after an alert regarding a murder case, leaked the suspect's name before he had his day in court. This is in regards to the murder of a tourist who had been backpacking in country in December of 2018. This sparked outrage throughout the country considering its low crime rate. Google attempted to rectify the situation but it was already too late. Google's defense was that the information only went out fewer than 200 subscribers but; nonetheless, a newspaper still published the story, name included.

This has raised some questions as to whether Google is capable of effectively utilizing its resources, in cases where suppressed information is leaked. Google has only stated that it understands the sensitivity around the issue, and ensures that it won't happen again.
