Facebook might very well be facing a huge fine by the FTC, of 5 billion, due to its involvement in the Cambridge Analytica scandal that effected the 2016 US Presidential election. Related article can be found here. But some are afraid that Facebook won't learn its lesson, as the fine is barely a tab on the wrist, for a company that makes tens of billions every year. The total fine only amounts to one month of Facebook's earnings, henceforth, a quality argument could be made for those who fear that what happened with Cambridge could happen again.

While the FTC has finalized a fine, it still has to be approved by the US Department of Justice. Beside the FTC fine, the UK based Information Commissioner's Office has also imposed a 500,000 pound [628,000 USD] fine on Facebook also because of the Cambridge scandal.
