Facebook, a company notorious for causing quite an uproar during the 2016 US elections, is being fined 1 million euros by Italy, for mismanaging user data and "precipitating the Cambridge Analytica scandal.

This is in part, also related to an app that was on Facebook called Your Digital Life, a game at first glance that asked the user a series of questions; little did the user know, that this app was also collecting information on the user's friends without consent, and collected this information and sent it back to Cambridge, where they used it to create psychographic profiles, and in turn these profiles were used for political advertising. In 2018, Cambridge university filed for bankruptcy.

This isn't even the tip of the iceberg, An FTC fine is still haunting Facebook, that could total anywhere from 3 to 5 billion. On top of this, Facebook recently announced its launch of Libra, a new crypto currency, next year. While Fb officials have stated that the currency won't be used for political advertising, it still puts Facebook in the crosshairs of federal regulators.
