Australia hit with a "sophisticated cyber attack" as it has been referred to. AUS state officials have stated this attack may have been carried out by state sponsored actors, because of this some have taken to pointing fingers towards China, but nothing is currently set in stone, other than stating the malicious actors were state sponsored.

Officials have stated that it is unknown as what data may have been sought out or accessed, and that they are "piecing together the events". The networks that were targeted belonged to the Liberal National and Labor Parties. The Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, stated that the issue has been nipped in the butt, and that their democracy is safe and secure, and that their electoral system is stable shall not be interfered with.

As for the hackers, their identities are as of now, unknown. According to the ACSC, the attackers used tools that they had never seen before. The investigation is ongoing.

While some media outlets have speculated that China is behind the attacks, China's foreign ministry has called these allegations "irresponsible" and "baseless".
